Vanderbilt family session-DC Family Photographer

I must make this short and sweet... it's way past my bedtime but I could NOT wait to post these pictures. My session with Kate and Brent and "big boy" as his parents call him was a blast. We wandered around Peabody Campus (part of Vanderbilt University) where the leaves are in full fall peak. We could not have asked for more beautiful weather! It was cloudy and raining this morning which worried both Kate and myself but by this afternoon the clouds had cleared and the most gorgeous fall light I have ever seen set in. These images took little editing because of the fantastic light. Note to self: do whatever you can to constantly shoot at this time of day.

Hope you three enjoy your sneak peek. :)

(In my excitement and tired disposition I just now realized none of these images have watermarks. Oh well... )

We started out at home with Kate reading to B.

They had these awesome couches next to the windows. Had to have a shot here.

When we drove onto Peabody campus I just knew that we had to follow the road back and take some pictures around these trees!

Don't the colors of the leaves just add so much life to this image?

Brent and B have a very close bond as is seen in this image and the next few.

One of the few I converted to B&W. I just couldn't do it! The colors are too rich and beautiful.

Now for some one on one time with Mom.

More loves from Dad. This picture melts my heart.

These leaves looked as though they were on fire and I made sure we got a few pictures near them.

Canvas!!!

I can't tell you how giddy I was leaving this shoot though I totally acted normal don't worry. Once I had driven away though I pulled over and scrolled through all the images really quickly. Thanks again Kate and Brent, it was a great afternoon!

Second shooting my first wedding

I was fortunate enough to second shoot my first wedding as a photographer a few weeks ago with the wonderful Jennifer Creed whom I now consider a good friend. When my husband Scott and I found out that we were going to be moving to Nashville Jen was one of the first to email me and let me know that if I ever wanted to second shoot with her that she would be more than happy to have me come along. This Southern hospitality thing is wonderful! ;)

And so we were able to shoot Tyler and Kati's wedding a few weekends ago and I was as nervous as could be. Kati and Tyler were wonderful to work with, their love for each other radiating in their eyes and the glances they stole. It was such an honor to be apart of their special day. And Jen was equally as wonderful, always giving me pointers, showing me how and why she did certain poses and being a great mentor. While I know I still have so much to learn I thought I would post a few of my favorites from the day. Hope you enjoy! :)

Holiday Mini-Session at Percy Warner Park- DC Family Photographer

Can you tell that I love shooting at Percy-Warner Park? No two locations are ever the same, making it original for the families I shoot as well as for me! Today was an absolutely gorgeous day to be out shooting. I was lucky enough to have a mini-session with this wonderful family of three (with one on the way) and I even got my workout in for the day. ;) Katie and I joked about me running all over the place. I'm sure I look ridiculous but it allows me to keep up with fast little guys like this one.

Loved meeting you Scott and Katie and little guy! Hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

Such a sweet smile. So glad we could capture it!
I love seeing dads interact with their sons. Having only one girl it's so fun to see the difference.

Giving loves to the baby.

I love the look on Katie's face in this one. To me it's that radiant joy a mother feels for her child.

I knew we got it guys! All three, happy family members looking at the camera. :)

Hope you all enjoyed your sneak peek!

Travels and family pictures

My husband and I had decided that we were going to stay in Nashville for the Christmas holidays. We went home to the Northwest for Christmas last year and both he and my daughter were hospitalized with illnesses. Yuck. We went to Oregon to visit his fam in June and then Washington/cruise to Alaska in July with my fam. We were tired of traveling...

But things have changed and we decided to head west with a little stopover in Utah. I figure, E will only be "free" as far as flying terms go for just a while longer and believe it or not, tickets were extremely reasonable.

So.... I'll be out in Utah mid December and then up in Washington and Oregon (Oregon only for a few days though) so email me and let me know if you want to meet up or schedule a session. I probably won't have time to do any shoots in Oregon though. :( Sad.

A couple of weeks ago I had my friend Emily of Emily T Photography take our family pictures and she did such a wonderful job. I wanted to give her a little shout out and include a picture of my family. It's soooo nice to have awesome images of us and I can't wait to hang some of these as 16x24 prints on our wall! Can't thank you enough Emily!!!

I've changed my mind about wearing black for photographs. I LOVE it! :)

I'm sorry, but can I just say how cute I think my little girl looks here? Love her.

And one last cute little picture of my girl taken by me. We went out to an amazing park here in Nashville and just had a fun time playing with her ball. :)

Percy Warner Park shoot- DC Family Photographer

I have been so excited to do this post. One thing I really love about what I do (and perhaps I'm redundant in saying this) is that I get to meet amazing families. Take this family for example. Rivka and her husband Nick have the cutest kids ever! When I arrived at their house they were so excited that we were all going to hang out... and they didn't even know me yet! Who's to say that I'm that cool? :) We head outside and A asks me what the orange blow up pumpkin on his neighbor's lawn is to which I reply, "A pumpkin". His response? "Can we eat it?"

The littlest, "I", kept giving ME hugs at the end. Nick remarked that they should have had a camera to take pictures of I giving me hugs. I love documenting the interactions of family members, the things that we consider everyday... and yet they aren't everyday... they're right now. And right now won't last forever. Rivka, Nick and fam, I hope you like your sneak peek. It was beyond my pleasure to spend the afternoon with you.

S, you are beautiful. See, I didn't use the "other" picture that you saw on my camera screen. :)

Who wouldn't enjoy a day with cute faces like this?

And this?

Because of Nick's work, he isn't home alot and the kids very much wanted to hang with him during the shoot since they don't see him. But I'm sooo glad that we got this shot for Rivka! I knew we got it! :)

Gorgeous family...

Ok, so I know this isn't an image anyone would buy and I have no idea how this even came about but when I saw it, I thought it was so beautiful. Rivka, truly, you are beautiful.

Kisses for Mom after a "new" version of telling about the three little pigs.

And loves for Dad too.

Is it just me or does Nick bear a resemblance to Patrick Dempsey? (Dr. McDreamy) I think he does...
Just strumming away...

Story-time, one of their favorite things to do as a family

Nick and Rivka, you are such a striking couple!
Again, thank you so much for a wonderful shoot. I love leaving a client's home feeling like I've made a new friend and that's how I felt around you all. Your session will be up soon! :)
